William Joseph “Joe” Streby, age 100, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. Born in Indus, Minnesota on August 7, 1925, Joe was the son of Harvey and Lura (Hawn) Streby and was raised alongside his brother, the late Guy F. Streby. From his early years in northern Minnesota to his final days surrounded by loved ones, Joe lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, warmth, and a genuine love for people.
Joe married his first wife, Barbara Anne (McDonald), and together they built a strong and loving family during their 49 years of marriage, until Barbara’s passing in 1998. They raised two children who were his pride and joy: Gregory (Diane) Streby and Sheryl (Al) Himmelstoss. In 2001, Joe found love again with his second wife, Nancy (Enghusen), with whom he shared 17 wonderful years before her passing in 2018.
A devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, Joe cherished every moment with his grandchildren, Nicholas (Angie) Streby and Daniel (Jenna) Streby, and his great-grandchildren, Camden and Elliott. His family, near and far - including his large extended family in Minnesota - remained central to his heart throughout his long life.
Joe worked for Chrysler for 30 years before retiring, but retirement didn’t slow him down. In a new chapter that brought him great pride, he and his son Greg earned their builders’ licenses and founded Streby Remodeling LLC. Together they remodeled homes, transforming spaces with craftsmanship, care, and the special joy that comes from working side by side with family.
A man of many hobbies and an active spirit, Joe loved playing cards and could often be found riding his golf cart to the clubhouse for a few hands, at least twice a day. He enjoyed hunting deer, elk, and antelope, and he never passed up a good game of shuffleboard. Known fondly as the “Mayor” of his neighborhood, Joe kept a thorough record of local goings-on during his regular golf-cart cruises and was always ready with a friendly wave, and a quick chat.
Joe was deeply loved and treasured by many, including a large circle of friends in Arizona who became like family to him. His warm personality, easy laugh, and genuine interest in others made him unforgettable to all who crossed his path.
He will be missed beyond measure by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, December 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Coats Funeral Home – Clarkston, with a memorial service immediately following beginning at 1:00 p.m.
