William H. (Bill) Burder, 99, of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away peacefully just 15 hours before his 100th birthday, on October 4, 2024. Born on October 5, 1924, to the late William and Ada (Thompson) Burder, Bill lived a life full of love, service, and craftsmanship.
On May 21, 1943, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country for three years during World War II. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Barbara Wood, on May 1, 1948. Together, they built a strong and loving family during their 73 years of marriage, until Barbara’s passing on September 6, 2021.
Bill had a lifelong passion for working with his hands. He was a master woodworker, creating everything from jewelry to furniture, and even building a cottage up north, doing all the work himself, except for the cement. His talents extended to restoring classic cars, with a special fondness for his ‘66 Mustang, 1960 Chrysler Windsor, and a 2nd generation ‘74 Camaro.
A dedicated member of the Free Masons, Bill followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and became a Master Mason of the Pontiac Lodge #21. His commitment to the Masonic principles of brotherhood and service was evident in all aspects of his life.
Bill will be deeply missed by his children, Nancy (Fred) Calabro and David (Margaret) Burder; his grandchildren, William Burder, Angela Dempsey, Eric Calabro, and Lisa Hydorn; and his great-grandchildren, Ian James Burder, Morgan Elizabeth Burder, Abbie Lyn Dempsey, Charlotte Calabro, Henry Calabro, Olivia Hydorn, and Collin Hydorn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, his parents, and his brother, John E. “Ted” Burder.
A Memorial Service to honor Bill’s remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Coats Funeral Home, 3141 Sashabaw Rd., Waterford, MI 48329. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with Deacon Glen Morrison officiating the service. Those unable to attend in person may join via the Coats Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will immediately follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
