Susan Schenck, 91, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on January 4, 2025. Born on March 29, 1933, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Charles and Marie (Watson) Weiler, Susan led a life rich in love, adventure, and companionship.
Susan and her late husband, James, were inseparable. Their lives were deeply intertwined, and they were known for their shared passions and pursuits. In 1973, they helped found the Oakland Pontiac Enthusiast Organization (O.P.E.O.), a testament to their love of their community.
The couple also enjoyed the warmth of Florida winters, becoming snowbirds for many years. They shared an adventurous spirit and even learned to fly small airplanes, embarking on “$100 Hamburger” trips and flying together to Mackinaw Island, creating lasting memories.
At home, Susan found joy in her garden, tending to her plants and flowers with love. She also cherished her many beloved German Shepherds and cats, especially “Buster,” the cat who remains with the family today.
Susan is survived by her children, James (Sheri) Schenck and Linda (Mike) Jones; her grandchildren, James Riley Schenck, Summer (John) Giannini, Amber Schenck, Laurel (Ben) Maushardt, John (Angie) Wolven, and Marie (Jon) Potts; as well as 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Harold) Ritchie; special neighbors, Bonnie Clevenger and Joe Carey; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Schenck, Sr.; her parents, Charles and Marie Weiler; her siblings, Charles Weiler, Carol Becker, and Nancy Laird; and her grandchildren, Rebecca Steinberger and Benjamin Wolven.
In accordance with Susan’s wishes, no services will be held. However, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter in her honor, a cause close to her heart.
