Stephen B. Sherrick, 80, of Waterford, Michigan, died unexpectedly on November 25, 2024. Born March 3, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN. Steve was the eldest of two sons born to the late Everett and Priscilla (Mitchell) Sherrick. He graduated from Walled Lake Senior High School in 1962. He began a nearly 50-year career at General Motors, first as a draftsman, then as an engineer. Steve married Molly (Winborn) Sherrick in 1983 and supported and raised a blended family of six.
He was self-taught in many trades including programming and building computers, photography, electrical and mechanical engineering, wood and metal working, and construction. He enjoyed boating, fishing, classic Chevy cars and Corvettes, and traveling with his wife Molly and her cousins, Jerry and Louise Hall, to Mexico and New Zealand. For years he took annual walleye fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. He was an active member of the Tri-Five Chevy Club and attended many Dream Cruises on Woodward Avenue. Steve loved helping and collaborating on home, yard, and vehicle projects with his family, friends, and neighbors. Planning the details and gathering the tools necessary for the job were his favorite parts of the process. He was nicknamed “Stainless Steel Steve” by his coworkers and more recently went by “Hatman Steve” after he accumulated so many hats for sun protection that he was never seen without one.
Surviving Steve are his beloved and devoted wife of 40 years Molly (Winborn) Sherrick; his children, Todd and Chris Sherrick; his stepchildren, Brian Reedy (Trish Belanger) and Jill (Terry) DeDoes; his brother, John (Laura) Sherrick; grandchildren, Gabrielle Ankley (fiancé Sam), Sasha Sherrick, Alexis Sherrick, Jack Reedy, Henry Reedy (significant other Cortlyn), Jacques Finch, Tyler Finch, Elly Finch, Nash (Matley) DeDoes, and Cade DeDoes (significant other Kelsey); and many dear nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and special uncle and aunt, Mark and Helen Stewart.
Public visitation will be held at Coats Funeral Home - Waterford on Friday, December 6th from 3-8pm and Saturday, December 7th from 10-11am. Funeral service will begin at 11am, officiated by Reverend Laura Kelsey. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery.
