Shirley Jean McGee, age 98, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on March 19, 2026. She was born on March 31, 1927, in Clarkston, Michigan, to Carlos and Evadna Richardson (née Sanford). Shirley was raised on her family’s farm, located on what is now the site of the Waterford VG’s, and carried those strong roots and values with her throughout her life. She graduated from Pontiac High School in 1944. Shirley met the love of her life, Joseph McGee, and together they built a beautiful life in Waterford, raising their five children. A devoted homemaker, Shirley took great pride in caring for her family. She found joy in gardening, traveling, and spending winters in Florida. She especially loved playing bingo, hosting family gatherings, and celebrating Christmas, which brought her immense happiness. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Shirley and her husband were charter members of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, where her faith remained a cornerstone of her life. Shirley is survived by her loving children: Michael (Debi) McGee, Joseph (Michele) McGee, Stephen (Julie) McGee, Susan (Scott) Carlson, and Bradley (Donna) McGee; 11 cherished grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and her dear sister, Sharon Paladino. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Joseph McGee; her siblings, Delwin (Barbara) Richardson and Harold (Barbara) Richardson; and her brother-in-law, Bart Paladino.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 5481 Dixie Highway, with an instate beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
Shirley will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her loving heart, and the warmth she brought to all who knew her.
