Sheila Marie (Geraghty) Cach

Sheila Marie Cach, age 86, passed away on July 7, 2026 following over a decades long struggle with Dementia. Born on March 29, 1940, in Dayton, Kentucky, Sheila was the beloved daughter of Merwin and Elizabeth Geraghty (née Gilmore). She graduated from St. Leo High School and continued her education with college coursework before marrying high-school sweetheart, Kenneth Cach. The couple was united in marriage in 1962. Sheila followed him to Germany where Kenneth was stationed by the United States Army and they had their first child.

Sheila was a many-faceted and curious person. She had a life-long love of horses, vacationing at the Double JJ resort in Rothbury, Michigan as a young adult and later spending time there with her daughters when they were older. She had a love of reading that she instilled in her children and community through her work as a librarian in Vernon, Michigan. It even prompted her to write children’s books. Although she was never published, her children enjoyed them immensely. She was an avid gardener and tended a beautiful rose garden along with fruit trees and various other vegetables. She loved sewing and made many of her childrens’ clothes (to their chagrin). Sheila volunteered for Hospice at a local nursing home, later working for a local doctor performing administrative duties. Music lightened her mood, especially John Denver which her children were forced to listen to endlessly. She enjoyed golfing and bowling with her husband. Later, after his passing, she took up fishing, bow-hunting, and boating (pontoon) at her 40 acre cabin on Martiny Lake Flooding in Michigan. The family has many fond memories of time spent there. In her more golden years she found great pleasure and many new hobbies in Arizona where she wintered as a “snowbird” in Sun City. She took up weaving – spinning her own yarn and owned two looms with which she fashioned clothes and wall hangings.  She also owned a kiln which she brought back to Michigan so she could continue her stained glass art work during the summers which she often gave as gifts to her children to display in their homes. Sheila loved her grandchildren, teaching them to make funny faces, doing silly dances and eating ice cream out of her ‘Good China” bowls.  And, no matter whom you were, she always cautioned you when you left to drive safely, watch for deer, and call her when you got home.

 Sheila is lovingly survived by her children, Kathleen (Michael) Nicholson, Debra (Greg) Kakert, Anthony (Kara) Cach, and Tammie (Hosam) Abdu; her grandchildren, Kathryn, Kendra, Lindsay, Stella, Tony T., and Rylan; her great-grandchildren, Roman and Athena; and her siblings, Patricia Sabourin, Merwin "Skipper" (Dinny) Geraghty, Karen Davis, Jackie Smith, and Betty (Butch) Steinman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Cach; her parents, Merwin and Elizabeth Geraghty; her brothers-in-law, George Sabourin, Rick Davis, and Ron Smith, and her grandson, Jacob.

A memorial service celebrating Sheila's life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
