Sanford Guth "Sandy" Obituary

GUTH, SANFORD B. “SANDY” was born June 30, 1925, and passed away on January 3, 2025 at the age of 99 ½. Sandy was born in the Bronx, NY and lived in Monsey, NY; Ft. Lauderdale, North Miami, and Davie, FL. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from Fordham University (1948) with a BS in Pharmacy. He was an original founder and partner of eight drug stores: two in NYC (Drug Mart), three in Rockland County, NY (Drug Mart), and three in Florida (The Druggist), Unisex Unlimited (wholesale and manufacturing beauty supplies – FL) and a partner in Kemper Carpet International, FL.

He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend. Sandy’s life was filled with fun, intelligence, passion, friendly competition, caring, humor, adventure, professionalism, business acumen, devotion, a profound love of life and the joys of family.

Sandy found such happiness in life’s simple pleasures – sailing, pharmacy and alternative medicine, music (singing, harmonica, and piano), casino gambling, traveling near and far – driving by car, RVing, motorcycle, and flying all over the world. His stories and poetry reflect his love of life from childhood on. Peaceful moments throughout his life, jogging was a disciplined daily ritual as was jumping rope and calisthenics.

He was the devoted husband of Shirle, the love of his life for 62 years Together they raised three children; Steve, Mitchell (d. 1986), and “Kat” (Karen).

Sandy had an infectious laugh which could brighten anyone’s day. When he walked into a room with Shirle they were the center of attention – all eyes turned. His hugs were strong and comforting, and his sense of humor was a gift that brought laughter to everyone he encountered. He had an extraordinary ability to bring joy to those around him, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went.

Sandy is survived by his loving son Steve (Gail) Guth; loving daughter Karen “Kat” Holland; grandchildren Audrey Holland, Hannah Guth, and Alana (Luke Harness) Guth; brother Dr. Paul (Phyllis) Guth; numerous nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Sandy’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Dad was always in charge of his life- even his parents acquiesced. In the end as in life, he was the master of his fate.
