Sandra Jeanne Chasteen, of Waterford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026. She was born in Pontiac, Michigan on October 21, 1948, to Claude Clifton and Geraldine Demarus Harroun (née Diehl). Sandra was a proud graduate of Pontiac Northern High School, Class of 1966. She was a member of the National Honor Society (1966), and also a member of the Pontiac Northern High School Chapter of Quill and Scroll (1966). During her younger years, she enjoyed cruising up and down Woodward Avenue with her girlfriends, embracing the fun and freedom of those unforgettable days. She later furthered her education by taking college courses at Eastern Michigan University, where life led her to meeting William Edward Chasteen. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised a family of four children.
Sandra possessed a creative spirit that remained with her throughout her life. She had a passion for crafts and card making her talents were truly phenomenal. She loved creating keepsakes that preserved treasured memories and moments for those she loved. She enjoyed quiet moments and simple pleasures as much as adventures. Sandra loved watching Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and British television favorites like Midsomer Murders. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, brain games, and reading every genre she could get her hands on. If there was a book nearby, Sandra was likely reading it. Following the passing of her husband, Sandra later reconnected with a dear high school friend, Ron Young. Together they formed a wonderful companionship and became best friends, sharing many happy years and cherished memories. Sandra loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed traveling, with a fondness of seeing lighthouses. She remained very close with her friends and was an active member of the Waterford Senior Center, where she formed many meaningful friendships and even enjoyed a memorable trip to Ireland. Later in life, Sandra decided to treat herself and proudly paid cash for something she had always wanted — a dark charcoal gray Dodge Charger with a HEMI engine. She absolutely loved taking drives in it and enjoyed every minute behind the wheel. Sandra was passionate about, and very active, in the Cards For Soldiers Organization. Above all else, however, her greatest love was always her family. They were her pride, her purpose, and the center of her world.
Sandra is survived by her beloved children, John (Deanna) Chasteen, Paula (Vince) Corrin, and Rebecca Chasteen; her cherished grandchildren, Traci (Eric) Chasteen, Thomas Corrin, and Dylan Hopkinson; her treasured great-grandchildren, Alex Rosado and Landyn Ortiz; her siblings, Rick (Deb) Harroun and Susan Harroun; and her best friend and devoted partner, Ron Young. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Edward Chasteen; her son, Edward Chasteen; her parents, Claude and Geraldine Harroun; and her siblings, Terry Harroun and Linda Harroun.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford, 3141 Sashabaw Road, Waterford. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Ottawa Park Cemetery will immediately follow.
