Sally Elaine Popour, born August 5, 1941, was peacefully called home on December 29, 2025. A woman of deep faith and boundless love, and a long-standing member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Sally lived her life in service to God, her family, and all those blessed to know her.
Sally was a kind and loving wife to the late Alfred Dean for 60 years, and the devoted and doting mother of Deanna (Pat) Hopkins, Suzanne (the late Lynn) Rutterbush, Catharine (the late Robert) Bailey, Michelle Brown, and Tina (the late Jim) Cowen. Her joy multiplied as a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She truly loved all babies, and delighted in every new life added to her ever-growing family. Though Sally once dreamed of having twelve children of her own, her beloved husband Alfred gently insisted there be a limit, a story often shared with a smile and laughter.
She is survived by her brother, Charles (Phyllis) Maddix, and was preceded in death by her siblings Terry (Sharon) Maddix and Julie (the late Harold) Thompson; and her parents, Charles W. and Geraldine R. Maddix (née Wells).
Known by all as a true giver, Sally spent her life serving others, especially making sure all were well-fed, and never wished to be served herself. You never went hungry around Sally. Her family was her whole world, and she loved them above all else. Her home was the gathering place.
She found happiness in the simple, beautiful things—quilting, sewing, baking, crafting, and creating with her hands, always with someone else in mind. Sweet, gentle, endlessly kind, and deeply caring, Sally was the nicest person one could hope to meet, and her warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Sally Elaine Popour will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who loved her.
