Ruth L. Smith

SMITH, Ruth L.; August 24, 1944 to October 27, 2023. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John R. Smith and her son John Jr.; She is survived by her children, Sharon and Keith Howell and Ann Marrie and Cristy Rauck; also by grandchildren, Bobby (Jessi), Bradley (Lyanna), Sarah (Kenneth), Beth (Anthony), Drake, Landon, Brooklynn, Joseph, Max, Xander and great grand-children, Haydyn, Lucy, Lincoln, Hazel, Sebastian, Faith, Giana, AJ, Branson and Mason; sister of Edna (Gary) Germain. She was preceded in death by Barlow siblings Bill, Rose, Ed, Lou, Ralph, Frank Anne and Dan. Ruth was loved and will be remembered by so many in the large family that she was so proud of.  She spent 34 years in Engineering at GM as an Experimental Vehicle Builder which is the equivalent of a Master Mechanic outside of GM.  Like her husband, she was also a skillful card player.  Although she knew her way around a vehicle, she was also a master of the needle arts some of which include knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, lace making and the lost art of Hardanger.  She was an accomplished seamstress and has sewn outfits and formals for so many over the years.  The best part for her though, was always sharing her knowledge with others.  She loved the connection that her crafts helped her make with others.  Anything she created was always as beautiful on the back side as it was the front!  She was a fiercely private woman who was content to let her husband shine as the social butterfly that he was.  She was also an extremely generous lady who was quick to help anyone in need.  She was quietly a part of the lives of so many.  Ruth will be buried at the Lakeview Cemetery in Clarkston at a private funeral service with her immediate family on November 1, 2023. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at The Fountains Golf and Banquet (6060 Maybee Rd., Clarkston)
