Robert Fischer Jr. Obituary

Robert “Bob” W. Fischer, Jr., age 68, of Davisburg, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was born on June 1, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Robert Sr. and Theresa (Horner) Fischer.

A lifelong Michigander, Bob was a man who lived life on his own terms—loud, fast, and full of heart. He was straightforward, dependable, and always ready to help those around him. Whether it was fixing a broken engine or lending a hand to a friend, you could count on Bob to show up.

In 1982, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Martin, in a ceremony at Greenfield Village in Dearborn. It was a fitting location for a man who had loved cars and drag racing since his early teens. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a 1973 Firebird from the ground up, which he raced across Michigan and Ohio. His knack for mechanics was second nature—his family and friends often described him as “mechanically inclined,” though that hardly captured the full extent of his skills.

Bob and Susan shared a marriage full of love, adventure, and partnership. Together, they raised their daughter, Gwendolyn, and spent many cherished weekends up north. In 1991, they took a generations-old family cottage and personally transformed it into a family home. Their favorite places to spend together were Torch Lake, Grayling, and Saint Helen—destinations filled with memories of snowmobiling in the winter and boating in the summer, always surrounded by friends and loved ones.

Professionally, he worked as a superintendent for R&H Development for 39 years, retiring in 2024. Even after retiring, he remained a trusted voice in the industry—receiving regular calls from former colleagues who relied on his wisdom and experience. His absence will be felt deeply by those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

At home on Big Lake, Bob found his happy place. He loved relaxing on his boat with a cold beer in hand, chatting with neighbors, and hosting gatherings. His annual Fourth of July fireworks display was a highlight of the summer—drawing crowds from near and far to see his spectacular show. He was a master of the grill, known for his smoked meats that were always a hit with family and friends. Bob could spend hours grilling, enjoying good company, and playing with his beloved Dalmatians – Kate, Windslow, and Tessa – who brought him endless happiness over the years.

Bob’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Gwendolyn, and her husband, Brian; his devoted siblings, James (Norma), Ann Marie, Susan (Paul), and Timothy; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family members, and his treasured Big Lake family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; his parents, Robert and Theresa; and his in-laws, Al and Ruby.

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Coats Funeral Home – Clarkston, located at 8909 Dixie Highway, Clarkston, MI 48348.
