Robert William Firman, age 72, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026.
Born on September 6, 1953, in Germany to Irene and the late Gerald “Jim” Firman, Robert moved to Michigan as a young child, where he would go on to build a life defined by devotion to family, steadfast friendship, and simple joys well shared. Michigan became not just his home, but the foundation of a life richly lived.
Robert married his middle school sweetheart, Donna (née Heaton) Firman, and together they created a beautiful life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Their marriage was a testament to enduring commitment and deep friendship, a bond that remained the center of Robert’s world.
For over 30 years, Robert dedicated himself to his career at General Motors, where he built not only a profession but lasting friendships before enjoying a well-earned retirement.
Robert found great happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing dominos and volleyball at the senior center, where his warm spirit and easy smile made him a favorite among friends. An incredible friend to many, Robert had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued. His love of classic rock was lifelong, especially the music of Pink Floyd and Deep Purple, which provided the soundtrack to so many good times.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Donna Firman; his beloved mother, Irene Firman; his siblings, Thomas (Susan) Firman, Debra (the late Bradley) Gibbs, Janette (Marshall) Lockard, and Beverly Steen; his sister-in-law, Sharon (James) Brundige; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Robert will be remembered for his loyalty, his laughter, and the steady kindness he extended to everyone around him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the friendships he nurtured so faithfully.
A memorial gathering will be held at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford on March 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
