Rita Josephine Cecil

Rita Josephine Cecil, 83, of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024. She was born on May 7, 1941, in San Diego, California, to Stewart and Isabelle (Plonkey) Tyle.

Rita was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She raised her children with love and care, vacationing in Frankfort, Michigan, spending time on the beach, and making memories. Whether gardening, walking or being by the lake, Rita found joy in making home and being surrounded by her family. Rita was also deeply proud of her career as a registered nurse. Her dedication, meticulous nature, and attention to detail made her a respected professional in her field. A devout Catholic, Rita’s faith was a guiding force in her life, and she often remarked, "Providence has always watched over me."

Rita is survived by her children, Rita Marie Houck, Mark Francis Cecil, Denice Justine Cecil, and James Edward Cecil, Jr.; her grandchildren, John Edward Houck, Amanda Marie Houck, Joseph Ray (Casey) Houck, Martha Rose (Steven) Owens, Alexander Ho, Chloe Ho, Isabelle (Steve) Depa, and Christopher Depa; and her great-grandchildren, Gary Houck, Gatlin Houck, Aliza Houck, Ila Owens, Ella Owens, Hudson Rathbun, and Nora Rathbun. She also leaves behind her siblings, Veronica McDonald, Mary Tyle, Raymond Tyle, and Michael Tyle, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Cecil, Sr.; her parents, Stewart and Isabelle Tyle; her daughter, Julia Isabelle Depa; her great-grandson, Joseph Dean Houck; and her siblings, Stewart and David Tyle.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 5481 Dixie Highway, Waterford Twp., Michigan 48329, at 10:00 AM, with an in-state beginning at 9:30 AM. Father Bob McCabe will be officiating.
