Reatha Allilis (Lutze) Houck

HOUCK, REATHA ALLILIS, age 100 of Pontiac, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023. She was born on June 5, 1922 in Bay City to the late William and Agnes (Adriance) Lutze. A longtime resident of Pontiac, Reatha retired from the Pontiac School system after many years of dedicated service as cafeteria manager. She was a lifetime member of Amvets Auxiliary and served as the State President from 1968-1969. She was also a long-standing member of the Pontiac Jr. Women’s League, MARSP (Michigan Area Retired School Personnel), and PARSP (Pontiac Area Retired School Personnel) After retiring, Reatha kept busy by making over 1,000 scarves for children’s charities in Pontiac and almost 200 lap robes for the VA hospitals. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching the birds in her backyard. More than anything, she cherished her family. Reatha is survived by her children: Gloria Steinbach, Walter Houck, Melanie (Frank) Helms, Ralph (Jan) Houck, and Rebecca Kidd; grandchildren: Dawn (Scott) Garza, Angela (Shane) Lemke, Jacob (Dawn) Kidd, Sean Whiteman, and Jennifer Helms; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother, Curtis (Judy) Lutze; and several cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, James Joseph Houck, and brothers: Russell Lutze, Basil Lutze, Walter Lutze, Cornelius Lutze, and Maurice Lutze. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 4-8pm at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD. Private interment at Ottawa Park Cemetery. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to Amvets Aux Dept. of MI (1535 48th St. SE, Kentwood, MI 49508) or a charity of your choice.
