Phyllis Louise Ross, of Clarkston, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on March 9, 1933, in Lake City, Michigan, Phyllis was the beloved daughter of Garrett H. Marks and Leona Voilet Cavanagh.
Phyllis earned her high school diploma from Kettering High School in 1970, an accomplishment she was deeply proud of. She went on to work for many years at Consumers Energy, where her dedication and strong work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike. Phyllis and Clayton were married December 5, 1949 their life together was one filled with devotion, laughter, and shared dreams. A woman of strong faith, Phyllis was a devoted member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Waterford. Her faith guided her life and was evident in the kindness and warmth she showed to everyone around her. Phyllis found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved candy, playing bingo, watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, and curling up with a good book—especially a romance novel. A true Elvis Presley fan, she never missed an opportunity to enjoy his music. Always up for an adventure, Phyllis was ready to go anywhere—as long as she had her purse and red lipstick. She was also a passionate Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed a game, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. Phyllis will be remembered for her spunky spirit, her sense of humor, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.
Phyllis leaves behind her children: Richard (Vera) Ross, David (Yvonne Reeves) Ross, Duane (Terry) Ross; grandchildren: Edward, LouAnn, Mandy, Stephanie, Andrea, Nicholas, Shawn, and Wendy; many great and great great grandchildren; siblings: Zona Sommers, Daen McMeans, and Garrett (Sharon) Marks. She is preceded in death by her husband Clayton M. Ross of one day shy of 52 years, her children Douglas and Denise, her grandchild Cyndi, and her brother Todd.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD (3141 Sashabaw Rd.). A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen Lutheran Church (3795 Sashabaw Rd.), with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Ottawa Park Cemetery.
