Phyllis Dennison, age 100, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026. She was born on August 10, 1925, in Koylton Township, Kingston, Michigan, to the late Harold and Viola May Coltson (née Pease).
Phyllis attended Kingston High School, where she graduated as the valedictorian of her class. A woman of remarkable talent and determination, she was an accomplished seamstress who owned and operated a drapery business for many years. Her work could be found as custom drapery for JC Penney in Pontiac. Phyllis later worked for General Motors Truck and Bus, where she remained until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Community Bible Church and a proud member of the Elks Club #810. After retiring, she continued her lifelong spirit of service by volunteering with the Red Cross, assisting with blood draws to help others in need.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Paula (Terry) Griggs; her daughter-in-law, Harriet; grandchildren Harold “Mick” Dennison, Richard “Richie”(Jennifer) Dennison, William “Bill”(Lori) Cooper, Matthew (Carrie) Roguske, Brian (Laura) Roguske, Tyra Ewoldt, Ryan (Melissa) Ewoldt; many great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe H. Dennison; her son, Richard L. “Rick” Dennison; her daughter, Linda Ewoldt; her parents, Harold and Viola Coltson; and her sisters, Betty Blackburne and Belva Belcher. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at The Meadows at The Orchards at Canterbury-on-the-Lake and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the time of service. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at Tunnel to Towers or the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
