Dr. Moufid Alsawaf, passed away at his residence on January 12, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born in Damascus, Syria on April 1, 1950, to parents Mohiddin Alsawaf and Monawar Alababidi.
After graduating from Damascus Dental School, he moved to the US in 1982 at the young age of 32 and pursued his passion for learning at the University of Arizona, the University of Buffalo, the University of Pittsburgh, and Harvard University.
Dr. Alsawaf moved to work and teach in the middle East since 1992 until 2018.The main reason for residing and working in the middle east, was to stay very close to his parents and his eternal love “Damascus”.
He loved sports and music; especially listening to Syrian musician Farreed Alatrash. He was a husband, a father, a brother, a scholar, a friend, and a mentor.
Throughout Dr. Alsawaf’s life, he was always a giver and enjoyed taking care of others. Sadly, his constant struggle with his multiple debilitating diseases got in the way of further education and undermined his quality of life.
In Dr. Alsawaf’s religion, Islam, it’s believed that patience through pain and suffering only purifies the soul further to get it closer to Allah. That’s what Dr. Alsawaf’s last 27 years of life were all about.
He leaves behind his dear mother Monawar, his wife of 33 years Salam Allouch; beloved children: Sarieha Alsawaf, Mouhiddin Alsawaf, Zaki Alsawaf, Sami Alsawaf, Adam Alsawaf, and Sali Alsawaf; siblings: Maha Alsawaf, Adib Alsawaf, Majiddin Alsawaf, Mayssa Alsawaf, and Manal Alsawaf.
May your soul rest in peace our dear beloved Moufid.
