Melvin “Mel” Edward Liedel, of Lake Orion, Michigan, devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 77 in Novi, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born on August 14, 1947, to Melvin and Yvonne Liedel (Nadeau) in Detroit, Michigan. Mel married his beloved wife Margaret Consiglio on May 16, 1974, at St. Phillip Neri Church in Detroit, Michigan, and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Loving father of Megan (Brian) Bachand, Marc (Terri) Liedel, and Matthew Liedel. Proud grandfather of Alyssa and Collin. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert Louis Liedel and Denise Firoozi, and will be missed by his sister and brother-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and so many dear friends.
Mel was a hardworking, dedicated family man. His love and devotion to his family were evident in every aspect of his life, and his proudest title was Grandpa. He was a passionate fan of the Detroit Lions, loved spending time with his family at their up north cabin, and enjoyed listening to music, being outdoors, and always being surrounded by people. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1967-1968. He spent his career working in building management and retired from the Hayman Company as a Facilities Manager in 2014.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Coats Funeral Home, 8909 Dixie Highway, Clarkston. A funeral service will be held at Christ the Redeemer Church, 2700 Waldon Road, Lake Orion on Friday, January 31, 2025, with in-state viewing at 10:30 A.M., mass at 11:00 A.M., and luncheon to follow.
