Marguerite Elizabeth Day, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025. Born in West Columbia, South Carolina, on September 15, 1929, she spent her early years on her grandparents’ farm, where she gained a lifelong appreciation for discipline, resilience, and family. A gifted student, she graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class, an early testament to the intelligence and determination that defined her life.
She later married Robert Day, and together they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2010.
For her children and grandchildren, Marguerite was a constant presence unfailingly there for every family gathering, celebration, and milestone. She was woven into the rhythm of family life, and her presence, so naturally a part of each occasion, will be deeply noticed and profoundly missed.
Marguerite possessed both clarity of mind and strength of body. She was an avid reader and followed current events with keen insight. She was also a loyal supporter of the Detroit Tigers, never wavering in her dedication to the team, and she loved the challenge of sudoku, which helped keep her mind sharp. Her vitality reflected both mental acuity and physical strength, carrying her with determination across nearly a century of life.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Day; her daughter, Tara Diane, who at the time of her passing was married to James Thomas; her mother, Allie Frye; and her sister, Janice Stowers.
She is survived by her sons Robert “Bob” Day and his wife Nancy, and Duane Day and his wife Claudia; her grandchildren Alex Thomas, Melissa Day and her husband Chad, Jennifer Persichetti and her husband Lucio, Ryan Day and his wife Alyssa, Erin Day, and Kerry Day; as well as five great-grandchildren who carry forward her legacy. She is also survived by her brother Wayne Frye, her nephews Michael and Brian Stowers, and her cousin Ruth Ann Addie.
She will be remembered as a woman of intelligence, strength, and devotion always present for those she loved, and always a constant in their lives. Private burial was held at Crescent Hills Cemetery, Waterford. Arrangements entrusted to COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. To post a tribute, visit www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.
