Riley, Mae passed away in her sleep on October 20, 2021 at her assisted living place in Clarkston. She was born in the home of her parents on November 8, 1930 in Pontiac, Michigan. Those parents, the late, Peter and Mas Vander Hoek were new immigrants to America from the Netherlands. Mae lived in Pontiac and Waterford, Michigan her whole life, (until March of 2018) with her husband of 63 years, the late H. Thomas Riley. He was the boy down the street who always happened to be washing his car in the driveway when Mae got off the bus. They had three children; Vicky Harsch, David Wayne, and Thomas P. Riley. (Vicky’s husband Ronald and Dave’s wife Joan). Mae’s nine grandchildren are Joshua, Jennifer, William, Corina, Courtney, Jackie, Addie, Simone, and Clare. Mae already has 9 great-grandchildren. Mae’s younger brother and only sibling, Lane, passed away a decade ago.
Funeral services for Mae Riley will be at 1 PM on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the First Congregational Church, 5449 Clarkston Road, Clarkston. Burial follows at Perry Mt. Park Cemetery, Pontiac. Mae’s family will be receiving friends Sunday from 3 to 7 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-CLARKSTON, 8909 Dixie. At both the funeral and viewing the family request masks be worn at all times.
