Larry "Shorty" Howard, 82, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025. Born December 28, 1942, Larry was a proud Navy veteran, family man, and longtime General Motors employee. Known for his love and loyalty he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Larry was a lifelong sports fan-often enjoying games with friends. He loved starting his days with breakfast and a walk. Larry’s presence brought laughter and light to everyone he cared about. Larry was never more himself than during Sundays with his daughter, Kay, their cherished tradition. He also held a special place in the lives of his granddaughters Aliyah, Riya, and Paytra. 'His Girls' were his best friends and his “partners-in-crime.” Larry and his son Chuck rarely spoke about their feelings, but their quiet acts of care revealed a deep bond. Among his fondest memories were dinners with his grandson John, of whom he was immensely proud as he grew into the fine young man he is.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Howard (née Persful). He is survived by his children, Kay (John) Brenner and Charles Howard; his cherished grandchildren, Bryant Howard, Hannah Kelley, Aliyah Howard, John C. Brenner, Riya Howard, and Paytra Howard; and his great-granddaughter, Magnolia. Larry also leaves behind siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 17, 2025. Family will receive friends from 4-8 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. To post a tribute, visit www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.
