Larry Henry Buettner, age 82, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on February 1, 2025. He was born on May 17, 1942, to the late Henry and Frieda (Laursen) Buettner, and raised in Hazel Park, Michigan.
Larry proudly served in the United States Army as a survey worker, and after his discharge, he began working at Chrysler. In the early days of his career, Larry met Barbara Lauth, and after four years of dating, they were married on March 7, 1970, at Faith Lutheran Church in Detroit. Their union spanned 55 years, filled with love, respect, and many shared adventures.
Larry was a man known for his incredible kindness and generosity. He had a quiet, gentle spirit and never spoke an unkind word. His family and friends knew him as a selfless and hardworking man, who treasured every moment with his children, Scott and Tammy.
Larry was a master woodworker. In his free time, he could be found in his Happy Place, his beloved woodshop, where he made beautiful works of art that showcased his talent and skill. Larry also had a passion for collecting classic cars, shooting pool, and playing poker with his buddies.
Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara Buettner; children, Scott (Sharni) Buettner, and Tammy (Bill) Schwab; grandson, Bryan (Danielle Wrinkle) Hughes; great-grandchildren, Danielle Hughes, Harper Hughes, and soon-to-be Baby Hughes; sister-in-law, Darlene (Stan) Matala; niece, Lisa Matala; best friend, Ron Bosek; extended family, Samantha Wasnich; his beloved cat, Gracie; and many more dear friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Frieda Buettner, and his brother, Gordon Buettner.
Visitation will take place on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Coats Funeral Home, 3141 Sashabaw Rd., Waterford, Michigan. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 11:30 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. Pastor Jason Koshy will officiate the services. Burial and military honors will follow the service at Christian Memorial Gardens West, Rochester Hills, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry’s honor to the Waterford Senior Center, a place where he spent many hours in their woodshop.
Larry’s legacy of kindness, devotion, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
