Kenneth Ray Murphy, age 74, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024. Born on July 8, 1950, Kenneth was the son of the late James Ray Murphy and Jacqueline (Conner) Smith.
A proud United States Army Veteran, Kenneth served his country honorably from 1970 to 1976, enlisting about a year after graduating high school. Following his military service, he devoted 36 years to General Motors, holding various positions throughout his career. His work ethic and commitment to his job were matched only by his love for family and friends.
On April 2, 1973, Kenneth and Sharon Bledsoe eloped to Jonesville, Virginia, beginning a 51-year marriage filled with love and devotion. Together, they raised two sons, Gregory and Michael, and built a warm, family-centered life. A true family man, Kenneth’s greatest joys were in his own backyard, where his legendary BBQs and signature ribs brought family and friends together. When he wasn't hosting gatherings, he cherished quiet evenings at home, content watching TV with Sharon by his side. Later in life, he discovered a passion for golf, enjoying many days on the course with friends. Kenneth was also a man of faith, a Protestant with a strong belief.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; sons Gregory (Linnie) Murphy and Michael (Lauren) Murphy; grandchildren Taylor (Jeff), Kaitlyn (Blake), Brooklyn, Jakob, Briyawna, Riley, Harper, and Keaton; great-grandchildren Gracie and Vivienne; and his sisters Vickie Jewell, Lisa Sorke, and Pam Shanks. He was predeceased by his mother, Jacqueline; stepfather, Floyd Smith; father, James; and brother, Danny Murphy.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Coats Funeral Home, 3141 Sashabaw Rd., Waterford, MI 48329, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Kenneth will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery
