Kathleen Ramona (Shields) Nelson

KATHLEEN R. NELSON of Waterford, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at 92 years of age. Beloved wife of the late Herman “Jack” Nelson for 50 wonderful years. Dear mother of Rick Nelson, Kirk Nelson, David Nelson, and Jacqueline (Barry) Hooper. Cherished grandmother of Kendall (Sarah) and Rachel (Cole), and loving great-grandmother of Rowan, Lucas, Madeline, Crew, and Goldie. Sister of Gerald Shields, and the late Gary and Louis Shields. Born in Pontiac, Michigan in 1933, Kathy married Jack in 1955 and together they raised four children in Waterford. A devoted member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, she sang joyfully in the choir and also shared her musical talents as a long-time member of the Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac. Kathy had a passion for travel, exploring the United States — including Alaska and Hawaii — as well as much of Europe. A lifelong reader with a sharp wit and a rich vocabulary, she loved learning and conversation. Remarkably active and independent, she continued walking and driving well into her 90s. Kathy will be remembered for her warm heart, her humor, and her zest for life. A private mass and burial will be held. Arrangements entrusted to COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD.
