Julia Ann Brown, age 55, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2025, surrounded by her family, with “American Girl” by Tom Petty playing in the background—one of her favorite songs and a perfect reflection of her vibrant spirit.
Born on June 17, 1969, in Flint, Michigan, to Maryrita Chimovitz and Mike McDonald, Julia was proud to be an Irish twin to her sister, Jennifer. She grew up waterskiing on Lake Fenton, skiing at Nub’s Nob, and camping in Ludington. In high school, Julia was an avid runner and a proud graduate of Powers Catholic High School.
Julia attended Grand Valley State University and graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint, where she met her husband, Greg Brown. The two soon moved to Colorado Springs to pursue their passion for skiing. There, Julia discovered a love for mountain biking.
After returning to Michigan, Julia completed her MBA at Oakland University and went on to have a successful career in business before landing her favorite job: Mom. Julia was a proud and devoted mother to her two daughters, Madeline and Meredith. Julia enthusiastically supported her daughters in all of their endeavors. She also had a deep love for her dogs, who were her constant companions and brought her great joy.
Julia was a beloved friend to many—known for her endless kindness, boundless energy, and playful spirit (cartwheels included). She had a passion for live music, especially concerts at Pine Knob, and she filled her life with travel, laughter, and adventure.
In July 2023, Julia was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. True to her nature, she faced her illness with strength and remained "Flint tough". She continued to travel, ski, waterski, and spend precious time with her loved ones. She never forgot how to laugh, smile, or say “I love you”. Julia’s spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Julia is survived by her husband, Greg Brown; her daughters, Madeline and Meredith Brown; her parents, Maryrita Chimovitz and Mike McDonald; her sister, Jennifer Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Bob Chimovitz, and her grandparents.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 20 from 1–8 PM at Coats Funeral Home, 8909 Dixie Hwy, Village of Clarkston, MI 48348. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 21 at 11 AM at St. Daniel Catholic Church, 7010 Valley Park Dr, Village of Clarkston, MI 48346, with an instate beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Waterford.
