Joseph Howell Obituary

HOWELL, JOSEPH S. “JOEY”, of Waterford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 21, 2026, at 54 years of age.

Joey was the loving and cherished son of Leo “Lee” and Paulette (née Beaudin) Howell and the beloved brother of James Howell. He was the dear nephew of Martha Cruse, Sue Eveleth, Tom Eveleth, Edward Beaudin, William (Cathy) Beaudin, and Christopher Beaudin. He is also survived by many loving cousins, especially Melissa, who spent countless afternoons by his side, sharing time, laughter, and companionship.

Born with many challenges, Joey never allowed them to define him. Instead, he became known for his happy-go-lucky spirit and the genuine joy he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His smile was contagious, and his warm, loving personality had a way of brightening every room.

Some of Joey's happiest moments were spent outdoors, mowing and raking the lawn or shooting baskets and hitting golf balls off the deck or just sitting in the gazebo and smoking his pretend cigars.  He also loved going to Lake Oakland Heights beach and out on the pontoon to captain the boat and catch bass.

Joey loved music, especially John Denver songs.  Singing along with his parents and others was a cherished tradition that never failed to bring smiles to everyone and created memories his family will treasure forever.

For 25 years, Joey was an active participant at New Horizons workshop, where he found friendship, purpose, and a community that embraced him. His family is deeply grateful for the love, compassion, and exceptional care he received throughout the years. They extend a heartfelt and special thank you to his devoted caregivers, Larry Thouin and Tony Perkins, whose kindness, patience, and friendship meant more than words can express.

Always ready for a good time, Joey loved playing pool and arcade games at Overtyme Grill & Tap Room, where he enjoyed the fun, laughter, and camaraderie of being with family and friends.

Joey lived a life filled with love. Surrounded by devoted family, compassionate caregivers, and loyal friends, he gave back far more than he ever received. His gentle spirit, infectious happiness, and unconditional love were gifts that touched countless lives.

The words of the 23rd Psalm remind us that "my cup runneth over," and for those who knew Joey, so did his. His life overflowed with love, joy, and the simple blessings of family and friendship. He will be remembered not for the challenges he faced, but for the happiness he shared so freely and the love he returned to everyone around him. His beautiful spirit will remain in the hearts of all who loved him forever. The Celebration of Joe's Life will be on August 20, 2026, at Overtyme Restaurant, 4724 Dixie Highway, Waterford, Michigan 48329, from 5:30-9:30 P.M.

Donations can be made in honor of Joseph Howell to New Horizons Rehabilitation Services at 1814 Pond Run, Auburn Hills, MI 48326.
