John Lawrance Kallan III, of Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Detroit to his loving parents, the late John Jr. and Helen Kallan (née Precup), John was a proud son, devoted brother, loyal partner, and a veteran who served his country with honor.
John graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served as a field artillery soldier during the Vietnam era, including assignments overseas in Europe. Following his military service, John lived in Texas for a time, working for a moving company, before returning to Michigan, where he spent over a decade employed at Mill & Abrasive Supply. He also lovingly cared for his mother in her later years, a testament to his deep family devotion and kind heart. Outside of work and family, John was an avid bowler and a passionate sports fan, especially of football.
John is survived by his devoted partner of many years, Julie Chudy; his beloved sisters, Darleen (Mike) Smith and Denise (Glenn Mercure) Kallan; and his nieces and nephews, Ron (Sarah) Smith, Emily (Dan) LeMieux, and Jennifer (Jeff) Poll. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jr. and Helen.
John will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery on a future date, with military honors.
