John Slasinski Obituary

SLASINSKI, JOHN PETER “CAP’N JACK,” age 79 of Clarkston, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. He was born on July 8, 1942 in Saginaw to parents Ben and Ruth (Huffman) Slasinski. Jack was a proud graduate of Central Michigan University and the importance of a good education was a standard he withheld throughout his life. He proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam and was a Bronze Star recipient. Jack later retired from GM after 44 years of dedicated service. He was also the past Commodore of Saginaw Bay Yacht Club. Jack had a passion for wine and would often hold wine tasting parties at his home for his friends and family. Happy Hour started at 4pm every day, and you could find Jack at home with a glass of his favorite wine. He was known for his legendary Michigan-Michigan State parties which would often draw a crowd of at least 100 people who would show up for good drinks, good food, and a good competitive game. When he wasn’t entertaining family and friends with fine foods and good wine, Jack prided himself on taking care of his lawn and garden. He loved roses and even had a standing order with the local florist for a few dozen roses every week that he would rotate throughout his house. If he wasn’t doing any of these things, you could find him cuddled up with the dogs and cat watching Fox News. Jack was a loving uncle who was continuously supportive of his nieces and nephews and beyond proud of their accomplishments. Everyone that had a chance to meet Jack was impacted by him in some way – he was a respectful and courteous person who touched everyone he met. His favorite saying was, “Life has been good - not always easy, but good.” Jack will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Jim (Julie) Slasinski; nieces and nephews: Kari Diaz, Steve (Karen Zalac) Slasinski, Tim Slasinski, Jennifer Chadwick, and Adam (Amanda) Slasinski; and countless close friends. He was preceded in death by both parents, and sister, Jill Slasinski. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to American Legion – Chief Pontiac Post 377 in Clarkston.
