John Jacobson Obituary

John Charles Jacobson, 56, passed away suddenly on January 9, 2025.  John was born on February 19, 1968, in Dearborn, Michigan, and resided in Waterford at the time of his death. John, known best to those closest to him as "Jake" or "JC," was an extremely loyal and adoring husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend.  John attended St. Agatha High School in Redford where he played football and developed a passion for sports. He later went on to share this passion with his family and close friends. John spent all his time doing for others, especially family, and made sure the people most important to him consistently felt the depth of his love. John’s magnetic personality drew people to him and his protective nature made those closest to him feel abundantly safe and cared for. He was the life of every party, with his quick wit and stunning sense of humor, he always made everyone feel welcomed in his presence. John will be remembered most for his unwavering work ethic, and the intensity of his love for his family.

John C. Jacobson spent much of his life protecting others. He was employed by the Detroit Police Department (precinct #6 and #11) from 1987 to 1997, when he moved on to serve and protect with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, where he achieved Sergeant status.  In this role, he was a mentor to many officers and a great investigator, as he achieved success by utilizing his incredible talent for reading people.  John retired from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in 2022, after 35 years of law enforcement service.

John is survived by his heartbroken wife Cheryl, his true teammate in life and love, whom he adored and admired deeply.  Devastated and unconditionally loved sons Anthony (Andrea) and Joshua (Livi) along with precious granddaughters Melody and Journey, proud parents Danya (Thomas) Wearn and John (Diane) Jacobson, along with caring Mother-in-law Sharon Robbins will all feel this incredible loss. Steadfast Father-in-law Clifford Robbins recently preceded him in death. John is also survived by his loving sister Carrie (Gary) Krupinski, brother-in-law and friend Allan (Wendy) Robbins, and prized nephews Matthew (Erica) Jacobson, Joshua, Jonah and Landon, who will all miss him deeply.  John was cherished by great niece Mackenzie and great nephews Zachary and Nathan.  John's sidekick dog Zucchini, AKA Zuke, will feel this sorrow immensely but will help to fill the void of his absence and offer comfort to those who were closest to him. John will also be greatly missed by a multitude of extended family members, friends, and his brothers and sisters in the law enforcement family of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

A private service will be held to honor John’s life, per his wishes.
