Sept 10, 2021 Jeanette Mary (Auger) Cooney of Waterford, MI passed away. She was 91 years old; born February 19, 1930 in Detroit, MI.
Jeanette is survived by her six children, Dave (Karen) Cooney, Patt (Pat) Kelsey, Tim (Beverly) Cooney, Sue (Larry) Coopersmith, Dennis (Debbie) Cooney and Mary Cooney. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Cooney (Dec 13, 2015) her parents Arthur and Alice Auger, and her three sisters, Shirley Rochon, Doris Hopkins, and Lucille Hornibrook. Jeanette (Janet) married Charles (Chuck), who was her high school sweetheart, on February 18, 1950, at Holy Redeemer Church, in Detroit. The newlyweds purchased their first home in Lincoln Park, MI where they lived for 16 years (where all 6 of their children were born), then moved to Commerce Township, MI where they continued raising their children, for 28 more years. The next 3 years they were full-time Rv'ers, before settling in Traverse City in 1997 where they spent the next 17 years enjoying retirement life in beautiful northern Michigan. Their last move was to Canterbury-On-The-Lake, a Senior Living Community, in Waterford, MI in 2014.
Jeanette spent the 65+ years of her marriage primarily as a homemaker, which she considered a blessing; raising their children, caring for their home, and being her husband's constant companion, partner, and helpmate. She spent a few of those earlier years as a Den Mother for her 3 son's Cub Scout packs, as well as making beautifully decorated cakes for birthdays, holidays, and even a few weddings. Jeanette was very artistic and enjoyed crafts of every kind. She was also known to grab a saw and hammer if some woodwork, or construction was needed. But her greatest love was traveling and camping! She and her husband (with babies and children in tow for many of their adventures) traveled to every one of the 50 states except Hawaii, and every Canadian Province. Jeanette was an avid trail walker, and beach walker, finding beauty and joy in the grandest to the smallest wonders of nature wherever she was. As age slowed down her traveling and walking she found many other ways to remain 'busy'…'detail' coloring ,puzzles, reading, and keeping up with family and friends living all over the United States by sending cards for every occasion!
