Jean Ann Wright (Stoughton) Watson, age 81, of Waterford, passed away on April 16, 2025, at 2:25pm with her husband and daughter by her side. Jean was born on March 6, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to Raymond Leroy Wright and Isabella Jane Karbal (née Stange). She graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Oakland Community College. On January 1,1985, Jean met the love of her life, Michael James Watson, on a blind date over breakfast in Detroit and from that moment forward, Mike and Jean were inseparable. On June 16, 1989, Mike and Jean married and their love story continued through 35 joyful years.
A true artist and vibrant soul, Jean lived life creatively and generously. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and was the proud founder of Jeantiques Estate Sales, one of the first estate sales company of the day, blending her passion for history, antiques, and community. Her talents extended to crafting award winning teddy bears, designing jewelry, and crocheting beautiful afghan blankets for family, friends, and for those in need, Jean donated over 200 hand-made afghan blankets in recent years to local homeless shelters, Jean finished her last blanket in early April of this year. Jean also had a keen eye for treasures and a sharp wit for negotiating at flea markets — a skill she never lost. Even in her final days, she shared laughter with her husband as they good-naturedly negotiated one last time while Jean was in the hospital. Jean’s life was one of great faith, selflessness, and heart. She was always doing for others — family, friends, and even strangers. Her home was filled with love, creativity, and warmth, and her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael James Watson; her loving children: Joyce Ann Stoughton-Kim (Hyung Tai Kim), Justin Watson, Shawn Watson (Kym), Jesse Watson (Nicole), Christian Watson (Amanda), and John Cleve Stoughton III (Lee); and her chosen children, Michael and Dee Engerer. Jean is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Isabella, Madeleine, Alexander Kim, Jessi (Bill) Shaffer, Chase Engerer, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Kaylinn, Noah, Allison, Ainsley, Emma, Luke, Logan, Lincoln, Lyla, Labella Watson; her loving sister Jerry Lee Alexander and niece Caitlin.
