James C. Wright, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on May 4, 1947, in Pontiac, Michigan, James spent the majority of his life in the Waterford community he proudly called home.

James was a proud graduate of Waterford Kettering High School, Class of 1965. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force, where he was part of the communications squad. His time in the service reflected his dedication, discipline, and strong sense of duty.

Professionally, James spent over 20 years working in sales, where his natural gift for conversation and genuine interest in others made him both successful and well-liked. He had an easy way about him—people were naturally drawn to his friendly personality, and everyone who met him enjoyed a good conversation. In more recent years, he continued working at auto auctions in Flint, a role that allowed him to stay active and connected with others, something he truly loved.

James was a devoted member of Mt. Zion, where he faithfully served in the children’s ministry. When the church established a security team, he transitioned into that role, continuing his commitment to serving others and supporting his church community.

James found joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and spending time at the gun range. These hobbies brought him both peace and camaraderie, and he cherished the moments shared with friends and family.

He is survived by his former wife, Dana Wright; his loving daughters, Hailey Wright and Elizabeth Wright; and Tatiana, who he lovingly embraced as his own and who fondly called him “Dad”; his sister, Susan (the late Tracy) Howard; his nieces and nephews, Tracy (Lorraine) Howard, Sherry (Sam) Coxen, and John Howard; and his great nieces and nephews James, Jack, and Andrew Howard, Whitney Parker (Tim Courter), Evelynn, King, Neo, and Ivy Sue Courter, and Elias Meadow. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will fondly remember his warm spirit and engaging conversations.

James will be remembered as a man who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—good company, meaningful conversations, and time spent doing what he loved. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Church, 4900 Maybee Road, Clarkston, MI on May 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM. A memorial visitation will take place before the service from 10:00-11:00 AM.
