Helen Lee passed away on September 2, 2023 at 95 years of age. She is missed by so many including her son, Keith and daughter-in-law, Joan, her grandkids and their spouses, her great-grandkids, her siblings, and the countless others who have come to love her. More affectionately known as Mamaw to many who knew her, she was an incredibly strong woman who, above all, cherished family. Whether it was the kind of family you inherited or the kind you chose, Mamaw welcomed all with the same love and affection, exactly as they were. Born in 1928 in Pineville, Kentucky, Helen was one of 12 siblings, but she was much more than just one in a dozen. She met her mate, Grover (Bud) Lee, in middle school, and the two were lovingly married for 58 years (unless they had to drive somewhere). The couple moved to Clarkston, Michigan, where she had two boys - including her late son, Donald, whom she tragically lost in 1985. Her strong, independent nature allowed her to live in the home Bud built, even after his passing in 2006, until 2021. Helen had a dry and understated sense of humor, which was the perfect balance to her husband’s jokester character. Mamaw adored her grandchildren Brian and Kara, their spouses Glenna and Lauren, her great-grandsons Henry and Caden, and was excited to meet her two new great grandchildren arriving in October and January. Additionally, Mamaw enjoyed spending her time with her supportive church community, running the library out of books, and visiting her family in Kentucky with her sister, Faye - all of which she continued to do as recently as this summer. She will be missed immensely. Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 12 pm at Coats Funeral Home-Waterford, MI. Burial follows at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston, MI. Family will receive friends on Saturday at 11 am until time of service. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, The Trevor Project, or the Elton John Aids Foundation
