Gerald "Jerry" Hesse

Gerald "Jerry" Deane Hesse passed away peacefully from heart failure on April 30, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on December 5, 1930, in Waterford, Michigan, he was the son of the late Alvin and Agnes (Leger) Hesse.

Jerry graduated from Pontiac High School, where he was a proud member of both the swim team and baseball team. He began his college studies at Central Michigan University, but his education was interrupted when he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return, Jerry built a long and successful career as an Allstate Insurance agent in Waterford, serving his community for 38 years.

A passionate athlete, Jerry was a dedicated fast-pitch softball player throughout Waterford and surrounding areas. He was a lifetime left-handed hitter and right-handed thrower, playing shortstop early in life and later excelling at third base. He also occasionally played catcher and was part of teams that won two state championships. Jerry loved the game and continued to play until retiring from the sport at the age of 60. Jerry's life was deeply rooted in his Christian faith. He was devoted to God and lived his life as a reflection of that belief. 

He was the beloved husband of Judy Hesse for 43 years. Jerry was preceded in death by his son Kevin Hesse. He is survived by his children, Kurt (Natalie) Hesse, Sharon (Gordon) Meadows, Dale (Kim) Hesse, and Aaron (Kerri) Hesse. 

He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Michelle Hesse, Sarah (Eric) Sawyer, Jerard (Maedeh) Welch, Kathryne Meadows, Zachary Hesse, Zoe Hesse, Zelene Hesse, Zander Hesse, and Zara Hesse; as well as his great-grandchildren, Layla Sawyer and Nora Welch. Jerry is also survived by his dear sister Gail Herr and was a loving uncle to Theresa (Tommy) Todd.

A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6440 Maceday Drive, Waterford, MI 48329, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:30 A.M., with a visitation starting at 9:30 A.M. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or K9s for Warriors.
