Freda Josie Hundley

Freda Josie Hundley, age 93, passed away on May 7, 2026. She was born on May 29, 1932, in Victor, West Virginia to the late Marvin E. Sewell and Gladys A. Sewell (née Hypes). Freda proudly participated in the Thespian Society at Ansted High School and graduated in 1949. Shortly after, she moved to Michigan where she began a life centered around faith, family, and hard work. She worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac and later as a kitchen aide at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. It was during those early years that she met the love of her life, Emmett M. Hundley. The two were united in marriage in 1949 and together built a home while raising their three children. Freda later began a long career starting at Fisher Body and then at General Motors plant in Orion, retiring in 1994 after 25 years of service. She was known for her strong work ethic, resilience, and caring nature. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Freda was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years. In her free time, she loved attending choir and exercise activities with her beloved son Ronnie, and speed walking at Wisner Stadium. Freda leaves behind her daughter, Diana Hundley; cherished grandchildren, Melody Prince, Aaron Prince, Angela Conner, Amy Clifton, and James Hundley Jr.; 17 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Emmett M. Hundley; her sons, James and Ronnie Hundley; grandson, Jeremy Price; and siblings, Delephine Hundley, Lanty Sewell, Wanda Wooldridge, and Maxine Scarbro. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Coats Funeral Home – WATERFORD (3141 Sashabaw) where Derrick Hullum will be officiating. Family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Christian Memorial Cemetery.
