Florence Mary McDermand

Florence Mary McDermand, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 11, 2024. A cherished daughter of the late Felix and Lillian (Brooks) Kudirka, she was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and spent her life deeply devoted to her faith, family, and community.

Florence was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Halfacre, and her second husband, Frank McDermand. She was the loving mother of Debra (Joseph) Grech, and a proud grandmother to Joseph Jr., Anthony, and Katelin (Brad) Callahan; great grandmother of Aaliyah (Kylie), Tyler (Chase), Marissa, Chase and soon to be great-great granddaughter Maizy Rose.

Florence went on to receive an associate’s degree from Kirkland College. Her professional life was marked by a career in accounting, where she worked for many years handling payroll for various apartment complexes.

A woman of deep faith, Florence was a devoted member of St. Helen Catholic Church during her time in St. Helen, Michigan, where she sang in the church choir and played the organ. She later continued her devotion at St. Daniel's Catholic Church in Clarkston. Her musical talents were a gift to all who knew her, and she loved sharing her beautiful voice with the congregation. Florence was also an active member of the Lady Auxiliary Post 416, where she dedicated much of her time supporting the veterans in her community.

The church was truly the center of Florence’s life, and her love for God and service to others was evident in everything she did.

  A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Coats Funeral Home – Clarkston. A Memorial Mass to honor Florence’s life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:30 AM at COATS FUNERAL HOME – CLARKSTON (8909 Dixie HWY). Florence will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery next to her husband.
