Fay Wright Obituary

WRIGHT, ELLA “FAY”, joyfully went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2026, at 96 years of age—just shy of her 97th birthday—surrounded by the love of her family. Hers was a life beautifully lived, filled with faith, laughter, friendship, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished.

Fay was the beloved wife of the late Wendell Wright and a cherished mother to Ted (Nancy) Wright and Rex (the late Cindy) Wright. She was a proud grandmother of Katie, Jenna (John), Kayla, Amy, Melissa, and Heather, and a devoted great-grandmother to Madasynn, Abbie, Jacob, Zoey, Wesley, and Wyatt. Preceded in death her loving sister, Eliza Kirkham, and her brother, Floyd (Vera) Hewitt.

Born in Tennessee, Fay met Wendell at a young age, and at just 18 and 20, they crossed state lines into Kentucky to marry—beginning a lifelong love story. Soon afterward, they headed north to Michigan in search of opportunity within the growing automotive industry, ultimately planting roots in Waterford where they raised their family and built a wonderful life together.

Faith was the cornerstone of Fay’s life. As a longtime and active member of Columbia Avenue Baptist Church in Pontiac, she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and service. She was also a proud member of the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society, where her bright personality and welcoming spirit made her a treasured friend.

Fay embraced life wholeheartedly. While raising her family, she spent countless weekends water skiing with her sons, bowled on the church league, played lively games of pinochle, and enjoyed dining out with dear friends. She treasured simple moments—especially meeting her girlfriends for breakfast, where conversation and laughter flowed easily.

A gifted homemaker, Fay lovingly crocheted colorful afghans for nearly every member of her family, each stitch a reflection of her care. Her baking and cooking —always prepared with love and  “enjoyed” by all who gathered at her table.

Known for her social, fun-loving, and friendly nature, Fay had a gentle spirit and was admired for her ability to speak with kindness. It was often said that she never had an angry or cross word for anyone—a rare grace that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Even in her later years, Fay’s mind remained sharp and her determination strong. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and remarkably completed a 1,000-piece puzzle just days before her passing, a fitting reflection of her vitality and perseverance.

Fay leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, warmth, and joyful living. She showed her family how to live with grace, love without hesitation, and find happiness in both grand adventures and everyday moments. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with Wendell and celebrating eternal peace.

Her life was not simply long—it was rich, meaningful, and well celebrated.
