STEFFENS, EUGENE PATRICK of Clarkston, passed away June 6, 2023, at 90 years of age. Loving husband of the late Faye (née Salyer) whom he married on May 19, 1952. Dear father of Jerry Lynn Steffens (Edward Sanford) and Beverly Jean Steffens (Gary F. Claudio); brother of Alice V. (the late Chauncey) Hack, Ruth Ann (William) Coffey, and the late Glenn D. Steffens; uncle of many beloved nieces and nephews. Eugene was born December 30, 1932, in Green Bay, Wisconsin of German and Scot-Irish heritage to Joseph and Emma V. (nee Trumble) Steffens. He attended a one room schoolhouse that he walked to daily; played football; wrote essays and poems; and wrote an award-winning essay. He came by his love of music honestly thanks to his mother who was a philharmonic Pianist and Flautist. He played every string instrument, excluding piano and harp. But the boy from Green Bay, Wisconsin would come to prefer Bluegrass publishing a record album for his wife Faye and family in honor of Faye’s Southern heritage. He played his music with his best friend, Joel and his brother, Glenn at various locations in Michigan and in his younger years they could be heard on the radio. Eugene would earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Social Science and retired from General Motors after 38 years of service as a skilled tradesman. When not playing music, he loved his vegetable garden and his little cactus garden by the garage. An animal lover, his daughter Beverly would also come by this trait following in her father’s footsteps. Growing up in an old farmhouse in Lake Orion he had a pet cat an “opossum” and at one time fed 30 stray cats that lived in the family shed. Loved and adored, Eugene will be forever missed by his loving family. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 12 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-CLARKSTON. Burial will follow at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Fresh flowers would be greatly appreciated.
