Elton C. Houston, Jr., of Waterford, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the age of 83.
Elton was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis Petro-Houston, with whom he shared 20 wonderful years of marriage. He was the beloved Stepfather of Rick (Christina) Kovary, Mark (Sheila) Matthews, and Dawn Walker. Proud grandfather of Kirk (Erica) Matthews, Caitlin Kovary, Ric Jr. (Ashley) Kovary, and Luca Matthews. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Charles (Carol) Houston. Elton was preceded in death by his parents, Elton C. Houston, Sr. and Dorothy Houston.
A graduate of Clarkston High School with the Class of 1960, Elton proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years before beginning a long career with Pontiac Motors, where he worked until his retirement.
Above all else, Elton treasured his family. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives brought him endless pride and happiness. Known for his kind heart and gentle spirit, Elton made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Elton also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Grace. Together they became familiar and welcome faces throughout the neighborhood. Whether stopping at the mailbox or relaxing at home, Elton and Grace always enjoyed visits with neighbors, who often paused to chat and share a friendly conversation. His warmth, kindness, and genuine nature made him a friend to many and will be fondly remembered.
Visitation will be held at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD, 3141 Sashabaw Road, Waterford, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy.
