Dora’Lee Schaffert, of Clarkston, Michigan formerly of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, passed away on August 20, 2024. Born on April 12, 1935, to William Charles Sr. and Doris Helen Schaffert, (nee Hoffman), Dora’Lee lived a life full of devotion, service, and compassion. She graduated from Brookfield High School in Illinois. Dora’Lee dedicated 30 years of her life to General Motors working for the Electromotive Division in Lagrange Illinois, retiring at the age of 50. Following her retirement, she channeled her energy into volunteering at the Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn, Illinois where she became a beloved figure. Her commitment extended to serving as the local court reporter at Cherokee Village City Hall and being an active member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. A passionate reader, a lover of plants, and a caretaker of animals, Dora’Lee’s nurturing spirit was evident in all she did. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Daren Scott (Karen) Schaffert, Shawn Brian (Sherry) Schaffert, Le’Ann Carol (Todd) Steele, and her niece-in-law Christine Schaffert. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Carol Vernell Schaffert, her great nieces and nephews Austin, Erika, Kylie, Chelsea, Sophie, Macie, and Benton, along with her cherished fur baby, SuZ, a poodle-shih tzu mix. Dora’Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William Charles Schaffert Jr. and her nephew, William Charles Schaffert III. Her memory will be honored with a burial at Chapel Hill West in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, reflecting Dora’Lee’s lifelong dedication to her faith.
