ASDELL, DONALD L. Jr. “DON” of Waterford, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025 at 68 years of age. Loving husband of Erin (née Shaughnessy) for 46 years; dear father of Don (Ashley) Asdell; grandfather of Alex, Eva, Elin, Emrie, and Eve; brother of Walter (Nancy) Asdell, Jack (Janet) Asdell, Donna Asdell, Candy (Randy) Dixon, Tom (Judi) Asdell, Kim (the late Dave) Leason, Tammy Ireland (Jerry), Faith (Ewen) Cameron, and Stephen (Lynn) Strye; Godfather of Bridget (Matt) Oldham, Molly (Jeff) Beeckman and Kathleen (Mat) Maxwell; beloved Uncle to many, preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Wanita (née Warner) Asdell and his beloved in-laws Paul and Monnie Shaughnessy.
Don was a 1975 graduate of L'Anse Creuse High School and attended Central Michigan University. He was a devoted family man, as the oldest of 10 he took his role as son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather seriously. He retired from GM after over 30 years of service. He was a proud, active member of UAW Local 652 in Lansing, where he donated his time serving on the Union Label, Human Rights Committees, and on the Veteran’s Council. For many years he organized pancake breakfasts and golf outings that raised funds to support the Union cause. One of his favorite causes to participate in was for the Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. He championed the Made-in-the-USA label and favored t-shirts that proclaimed his demand for social justice across a variety of causes. His advocacy was an inspiration to many.
Don was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and mentored many young men. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and home improvement projects. He loved trips to the hardware store and Costco. Don’s friends and family will always remember his wry sense of humor; he loved to tease, followed by a wink and a smile. He was a friend to many and
quietly extended a hand to those in need. As his health declined, he continued to make calls to check on his loved ones and found comfort in hanging out with his best friend, Candy.
