ANDERSON, DENISE BARALT, 77, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024 while surrounded by family at home. She is survived by her children, Jeff (Debbie), Susie (Dan) Dubeck, and grandchildren Dan, Charlie, and Jane Anderson, and David, Anthony, Lucy and Joey Dubeck. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony (Marianne) Baralt, and Jerry (Susan) Baralt, and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, David.
Denise was born in Philadelphia, and moved with her family to follow her father’s dental career at stops in Chicago, Puerto Rico, and ultimately, Detroit. She graduated from Immaculata High School (Class of ’65) and the University of Detroit (Class of ’69), where she was a member of the Kappa Beta Gamma sorority.
She spent her career in education, teaching at grade schools in East Detroit and Warren. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Wayne State University, and she retired as a guidance counselor with Chippewa Valley Schools.
Denise found a calling in Catholic spirituality, and she collected lifelong friendships at parishes and retreat centers including St. Alan, St. Anastasia, Colombiere, and Manresa. She was an accredited Spiritual Director and provided guidance and fellowship to many.
Upon retirement, her primary source of joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, she could most often be found trekking across sports fields, with a camping chair over her shoulder, to watch her grandchildren’s next game.
Denise’s family wishes to thank the staffs at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Residential Hospice, and the medical technicians at Monark Grove for their compassionate support during her final days.
Funeral mass will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Daniel Catholic Church, 7010 Valley Park Dr., Clarkston. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 3-8 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-CLARKSTON, 8909 Dixie Hwy. Memorial donations may be made to Mary's Mantle Catholic Home for Expectant Mothers or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
