David Stark Latta, 87, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 6, 1937, in Waterford, David was raised alongside his brother, the late Richard Latta, by their parents Charles and Louise (née Stark) Latta. From an early age, David learned the values of loyalty, hard work, and devotion; qualities that remained at the core of who he was throughout his life.
A proud United States Army veteran, David served his country with honor. After returning home, he earned his bachelor's degree from Olivet College and built a warm and joyful life with his beloved wife, the late Bertha Latta. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, music, and an unwavering love that became a model for their family. Bertha was not only the love of his life but also his favorite dancing partner, and the two were known to light up any room when a good 1950s tune began to play.
David was a devoted father and a constant source of encouragement and love to his children: Melissa (Edgar) Weathers, David (Jill) Latta Jr., Rebecca (Michael MacLeod) Latta, and Kathleen (Dennis) Fitzgerald. He was immensely proud of his family, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching them grow, thrive, and build families of their own.
He cherished each moment spent with his grandchildren; Jessica, Jack, Alec, Colin, Stephanie, Taylor, Megan, and Connor; and his great-grandson, Colbi. To them, he was a gentle guide, a patient listener, and a playful storyteller. David's legacy of kindness and humor will continue to echo through the generations he loved so dearly.
David’s passions were many, but he especially loved traveling, enjoying a sunny day on the golf course, and cheering on his Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. He appreciated the simple joy of a good song, especially an oldies tune, and he never missed a chance to show off his dance moves.
David will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, and steadfast devotion to those he loved. His presence made life brighter, and his memory will continue to bring comfort and smiles to all who knew him.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford, MI, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 10:30 AM.
