Darren James McInnes of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 64. He was born on October 7, 1961, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to parents Gerry and Judith McInnes.
Darren graduated from Lamphere High School in 1979 and went on to earn his degree in mechanical engineering. He spent most of his career as a CAD engineer in the auto industry. In his later years, he worked for GKN until his retirement, and then found his dream job working on the golf course at one of his favorite places — Fountains Golf Club in Clarkston, Michigan.
It was at that same golf course years prior, through mutual friends at a party, that Darren met the love of his life, Marlene Matz-McInnes. The two quickly became inseparable, and their bond only grew stronger with time. They were married on September 17, 2022, and October 21, 2025, would have marked seven beautiful years together — three of those as husband and wife. Darren was a longtime member of the Eagles and a proud Detroit sports fan. He was an exceptional golfer and an even greater bowler, achieving an incredible 22 perfect 300 games throughout his life. His yard was always immaculate, a reflection of his care and pride in everything he did. He loved being outdoors, especially by his pool, where he was known for his backflips off the diving board and his easy laughter. He had a deep love for cars — particularly his cherished Challenger — and for his loyal companion, a black and white brindle French bulldog named Stormy. Above all, Darren was known for his generous heart. He was always there for anyone in need, offering his time, help, or simply his presence.
Darren leaves behind his loving wife, Marlene Matz-McInnes; his mother, Judith Dubrinsky; his sister, Darlene McInnes; brother-in-law, Michael Bilbo; his stepdaughter, Ashley Matz-Stuk; his in-laws: Bruno, Christa, and Debbie; his daughters, Amanda Manalp, Ashlee Preville, and Amber Morfitt, their spouses, and his many grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him.
