Clayton "Clay" Earl Cobb, of Pontiac, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the beloved son of the late Rex W. and Sylvia E. Cobb (née Sirvio).
After graduating high school during the Vietnam War era, Clay was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served in the 1st Cavalry Division. He specialized in helicopter maintenance, a role he performed with pride and precision. Following his honorable discharge, Clay co-founded C & C Machine Tool, where he was a dedicated partner for nearly 30 years until his retirement. It was during this chapter of his life that Clay met the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” Ann Conradson. Their first date at Red Lobster marked the beginning of a lifelong love story and they were married in Las Vegas in 2006. Together, they shared many adventures—from riding motorcycles across the country to exploring the open road in their RV. Clay often said his favorite memories were made with Kathy by his side. A passionate drag racer and motorcycle enthusiast, Clay made his mark in the racing world with his team “One Way Racing”. In 2000, he was named the National #1 Top Gas Racer in the American Motorcycle Racing Association (AMRA). For over 20 years, he was a celebrated figure in Top Gas motorcycle racing, especially known for racing and repairing Harley-Davidsons. His chopper was more than a bike, it was an extension of his spirit. Above all, Clay was a man of deep faith, a proud member of Liberty General Baptist Church in Pontiac, which he attended every Sunday with his daughter, Elina. He was also an active member of Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), Chapter 133, Oakland County, as well as the Patriot Guard Riders. Clay cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by his grandson Jordon, granddaughter Brielle, and his grandchildren Anthony, Kimberly, and Lynnzee. His presence, laughter, and wisdom will be deeply missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 18 years Kathy Cobb; Children: Elina (Dalan) Tully, Jennifer Newton, and Melissa Newton; grandchildren: Jordon Cadwell and Brielle Bate; great grandchildren: Kimberly Burns, Anthony Clayton Alan Cadwell, and Lynnzee Cadwell; siblings: Gary (Kathy) Cobb, Tyrone (Beianca) Cobb, and Deborah Joy (Ron) Venturini. Clay was preceded in death by both parents Rex and Sylvia, and by his siblings Randall Cobb and Susan Cobb-Thompson.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22 and 23, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford. A Celebration of Life with family sharing will take place on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Military honors will be rendered in his memory on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
