HOUSTINA, Clara Mae, age 81, passed away on March 5, 2025. Beloved wife of 60 years to the late George “Gary” Houstina III. Loving mother of Shelly Houstina Leinenger, Susie (Andy) Marvin, Stacey Houstina, and Gary (Angela) Houstina. Cherished “Gammie” to her adored grandchildren: Lynsie (Eric) Hornak-Spoutz, Jordan (Rob) Leinenger, Sydney (Zach) Houstina, Sara Houstina, and Anna Houstina. Dear sister of Carl (Susan Brownell) Messer, Floyd (Pamela) Messer, Alice (Joel) Waltz, Ann (Ron) Clark, Samuel (Robin) Messer, and Connie (Frank) Campanaro. Preceded in death by her parents, Granville and Della Messer; her husband, Gary; her daughter, Georganna; her beloved mother-in-law, Marion Houstina; and siblings, Alva Dalton and Troy Messer. Born in March 1943 in Bryson City, North Carolina, Clara later settled in Waterford, Michigan, where she and her husband built a loving home and raised their family. She took great pride in watching her family grow and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. Clara found joy in playing cards—especially 31—where she loved to win and took great satisfaction in outplaying her loved ones. She also enjoyed trips to the casino, winters in Florida, and summers at the family cabin, always surrounded by those she loved most. A private family service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:45 AM. Burial will take place at Perry Mount Park in Pontiac, Michigan.
