NEUMANN, CHARLES HENRY, age 79, of Independence Twp., formerly of Alpena, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022. He was born on January 30, 1943, in Washington D.C., son of the late Bernhardt Walter and Emma Freida Neumann. Charles was raised in Alpena, Michigan. He met the love of his life the late Cheryl Neumann (nee Girard) and they were together for 48 wonderful years; cherished father of Matt Neumann and the late Kristen Black; proud grandfather of Vanessa (Robert) Saul and Brittany Black; dearest brother of Edward (Terry), John (Lynda), Fred (Kay), Marilyn (Ron), and the late Alvin. Charles graduated from Alpena High School in 1960 and went on to receive his associates from Alpena Community College; undergrad at Michigan State University with a double major in Math and Science; Master’s in Math at Michigan State University and University of Missouri Central. His gift and hard work in the mathematics’ field landed him a job as a professor at Alpena Community College from 1965-1984 and then worked for Oakland Community College from 1984-2009. While in school, he worked at Kroger’s and would frequently dine at Kresge’s, where he met Cheryl and where she worked, they married June 18th, 1965, and raised a wonderful family in Alpena. His father Bernhardt was the founding scoutmaster of Boy Scout troop 92 in Alpena and Charles was a scoutmaster to troop 92, as well. In his free time, he enjoyed reading books. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Coats Funeral Home – Clarkston. The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 18th, 2022, from 4-9PM and Saturday, November 19th, 2022, from 4-9PM. In honor of Charles, family requests donations are made to Samaritas.
