Charles Wesley Hayward

HAYWARD, CHARLES WESLEY, age 80, of Clarkston, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022. He was born on June 27, 1942, in Pontiac, Michigan, to parents Charles H. and Beulah Emily Hayward (nee Holsworth). Charles proudly served his country in the Marine Corps, working as a small engine mechanic. He met the love of his life Patricia, and they married on May 5, 1962. While in the Marine Corps, Charles and his wife started their family together, welcoming their daughter Linda to the world and later their son Charles. After his discharge from the Marines, he became a firefighter for the Pontiac fire department and worked there for 25 years until he retired. He was a man of faith and attended Waypoint Free Methodist Church of Clarkston. He enjoyed woodworking and ensuring his children and grandchildren were self-sufficient. Charles is survived by children: Linda Sherwood and Charles Hayward; grandchildren: Tia Sherwood, Kayle Sherwood, Annalise Sherwood, Carlie Sherwood, Dillan Sherwood, and Hannah Hayward; great-grandchildren: Aris, Jayden, and Tristan; Siblings: Beulah Boss, Virginia (Bill) Cleveland, and Roseann Hayward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, his sister Evelyn Bickmann, and both parents. A memorial service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, October 8th, 2022, at Waypoint Church (8400 Dixie Hwy, Clarkston). Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 AM until the service starts. Burial will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
