Carol Francis Joss, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, at the age of 90. Born in Pontiac, Michigan, on February 19, 1936, Carol was the second eldest child of Edward "Big Ed" Wirth and Evelyn "Vi" Wirth (née Trussler). As the second oldest of eight children, she lovingly helped care for her seven younger siblings and remained devoted to her family throughout her life. Carol graduated from Waterford Township High School in 1955. Not long afterward, she met the love of her life, William James Joss, when he returned home from serving his country. The two shared a beautiful marriage of 57 years until William's passing in 2013. Together they built a loving home and family, creating countless memories that will be treasured by those who knew them. While Carol's most important role was that of homemaker, she also worked outside the home over the years as a cashier at several local grocery stores and later at Alvin's Women's Clothing Store. She took great pride in caring for her family and making her home a warm and welcoming place. Carol enjoyed decorating and redecorating her home, always finding new ways to make it beautiful and inviting. She was an excellent cook and was especially proud of her hydrangeas, which flourished under her attentive care. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was an admirer of the artwork of Pat Buckley Moss. Carol is survived by her loving children, Mark (Patricia Watters) Joss and Tom (Kristi) Joss; her cherished grandson, Alexander (Ashleigh) Joss; her sister, Patricia (Michael) Thornberry; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William James Joss; her parents, Edward and Evelyn Wirth; her siblings, Gayeann Ashby, Eddie Wirth, Janet Williamson, Judy Sederlund, Susan Harb, and Debbie Grates; and survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Joss. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at VFW Heart of the Lakes Post 1008, located at 1690 Airport Rd, Waterford Township, MI 48327. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with dinner to follow. Internment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Angela Hospice at https://angelahospice.org/donate/ and/or Angela Hospice Home Care, Inc. 14100 Newburgh Rd.
