Carol Bentz Obituary

Carol Ann Bentz passed away at her home in Waterford in the presence of her loving friends on June 6, 2023. Carol was born on October 1, 1946, to Richard and Marcia Jean Bentz. She grew up in Gaylord, Michigan where she attended school. During her younger years she played school with friends and of course she was the teacher. During those years she mostly paid close attention to all her teachers knowing one day that would be her calling. In high school she was active in the Future Teachers Club. Carol attended Michigan State University and received her degree in Special Education. She was a Special Education teacher and consultant with the School District of the City of Pontiac for 37 years. She taught and advocated for Special Education students with the joy and enthusiasm she brought to all her endeavors. She had a special connection with the staff and students at Alcott school.

Carol is survived by her brother Allan Bentz (Linda), Nephews Chris Hayes (Gina), Evan Bentz (Karen), Great Niece Blair Nelson (Blair), Great Niece, Emilee, Niece Abigail Ball (Matt), Great Nieces Avery Jane and Gwenevere Allan. She is also survived by her Special Niece Anna Cobb Borovich (Doug Bismack), her Special Kid Jeffrey Holloway (Vanessa) and her Special Grandson Cade Holloway.

Carol was a loving and giving friend to many and her passion, humor, and words of wisdom will be missed by all who held her in their heart. She loved the Lord, and her church family were near and dear to her. Carol had numerous pastimes and hobbies. She was an avid softball player and spent many years on the mound. She loved the outdoors and spending time enjoying natural environments. As a wise and faithful caretaker of antiques she filled her home with family treasures as well as adding some great finds along the way. Her red and white tinware and button pictures were standout. Her homes were always perfectly decorated as were her gardens. She had a green finger and anything she put in soil gave back amazing beauty. Her peony filled front yard was awe inspiring. She loved swapping plants and gardening with her friend Edwina Borovich. She was a whiz on her sewing machine and in partnership she created many beautiful treasures with antique linens and buttons. Completing puzzles was part of her routine as well as watching the birds who came to her feeders.  She was an accomplished cook, and her pies were outstanding.

Carol has left us all with many wonderful memories, plants, recipes, and the warmth of her love.  Now she joins her parents, grandparents and her wonderful dogs and cats gone before her. Carol will rest in well-earned peace.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ (6650 Elizabeth Lk Rd., Waterford). Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
